Discovering the Apulian village with its 1400 trulli

A must-do experience for your holiday in Puglia, a guided tour to discover one of its most precious UNESCO treasures: the wonderful town of Alberobello.
The tour starts in Alberobello, a village with more than 1400 trulli, today a World Heritage Site. It is a tangle of winding alleys, with more than 1000 trulli, original dry-stone houses, whitewashed with lime and a cone-shaped roof made of exposed stones. Crosses, pierced hearts and zodiac symbols decorate the roof of each trullo, whose mystery remains intact.
We will visit the interior of the “Trullo sovrano”, now a fascinating museum house. It represents the only two-story trullo in existence. It owes its name to the historians who called it “Sovrano” that means sovereign, to highlight its grandeur in comparison to all the other trulli.
At the end of the walk we will stop at an old trulli house with four recently renovated cones and an organic outdoor garden where we can delight our palates with a selection of local delicacies.

Strolling through the alleys of Alberobello between history and architecture

The trulli of Alberobello are famous all over the world for their characteristic architecture. They are in fact an extraordinary example of how the peasant civilisation managed to optimise the raw materials that the generous land of Puglia has always offered.
The stones that form the cone of the trulli are shaped by hand and placed interlockingly one on top of the other without the use of concrete (the same type of workmanship is used for the dry- stone walls that you will see as property boundaries and delimitation of country roads).
In the past, these particular constructions were used as storage for work tools, as places to store grain or as stables.
Strolling through the alleys of Alberobello today, you will be able to observe their architectural uniqueness, so unique that Alberobello has become a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
